Aluminum Windows & Doors: Engineering FAQ
Technical specifications, project parameters, and procurement information for architects, contractors, and developers. All data verified to AAMA, ASTM, and NFRC standards.
1. Thermal Performance & Efficiency
How energy-efficient are Starveil aluminum windows?
Our thermal break aluminum windows achieve U-Factor values as low as 1.8 W/m²K, exceeding ENERGY STAR® requirements across all U.S. climate zones. The 24mm polyamide reinforced thermal barrier (PA66 GF25) eliminates cold bridging between interior and exterior aluminum profiles. Combined with dual-pane Low-E coated glass (Solar Heat Gain Coefficient down to 0.25), Starveil systems reduce HVAC loads by an estimated 18-25% compared to non-thermal-break aluminum frames.
What is the difference between thermal break aluminum and regular aluminum windows?
Standard aluminum frames act as thermal conductors—cold transfers directly through the metal. Thermal break technology inserts a 24mm glass-fiber-reinforced polyamide strip (PA66 GF25) between interior and exterior aluminum profiles.
Thermal Conductivity Reduction: Drops from ~160 W/m·K (raw aluminum) to below 2.0 W/m·K at the frame junction.
Performance: Meets ASTM E283 air infiltration standards and NFRC 100 thermal performance requirements.
The Result: Zero interior condensation at -20°C exterior temperature with 40% indoor humidity.
2. Material Durability & Comparisons
Can aluminum windows withstand coastal or high-humidity environments?
Yes. Starveil aluminum profiles undergo AAMA 2605-compliant finishing: a 4-stage chromate conversion coating followed by electrostatically applied fluoropolymer paint (PPG Duranar®, minimum 70% PVDF resin).
Testing: Passes 4,000+ hours of ASTM B117 salt spray testing with no blistering or adhesion loss.
Coastal Standard: For projects within 500 meters of the coastline, we specify 316L stainless steel hardware as our standard.
Alloy: 6063-T5 extruded aluminum per ASTM B221.
How do aluminum windows compare to vinyl in commercial projects?
For projects requiring curtain wall spans, impact resistance, or LEED certification credits, aluminum is the specified choice.
| Specification | Starveil Aluminum | Standard Vinyl |
| Strength-to-Weight | 3× higher | Baseline |
| Max Single Unit Size | Up to 2,400mm × 3,000mm (No steel reinforcement) | Highly limited |
| Frame Sightlines | Ultra-narrow (as slim as 45mm) | Bulky (70-80mm) |
| Service Life | 40+ years (Minimal maintenance per AAMA) | 20-25 years |
| Recyclability | 100% infinitely recyclable (at 5% smelting energy) | Difficult to recycle |

3. Customization & Glass Specifications
What customization options do you offer?
Everything Starveil manufactures is built to order—no stock sizes. Provide your CAD files, and we will match your opening schedule.
Frame Finish: 180+ RAL colors, anodized (AA15/AA20/AA25 micron grades), or wood-grain transfer (sublimation).
Profile Depth: Thermal break or non-thermal break, ranging from 45mm–85mm depending on wind load requirements.
Hardware Sourcing: HOPO, Siegenia, Roto, or GU Group sourced per your region.
What glass options are available, and which should I choose?
We source from globally certified fabricators (AGC, Saint-Gobain, Guardian). All insulated glass units meet ASTM E2190 inert gas retention and EN 1279-2 dew point testing.
| Glass Configuration | Thickness | Specs / U-Factor | Best Application |
| Low-E Tempered | 5-6mm monolithic | SHGC 0.25-0.40 | Standard energy code compliance |
| Argon-Filled Dual-Pane | 24-30mm total | U-Factor down to 1.3 | High-efficiency commercial/residential |
| Laminated Acoustic | 6.38-12.76mm PVB | STC 35-42 | Urban environments & highway noise zones |
| Triple-Pane | 36-52mm total | U-Factor down to 0.8 | Passive House & extreme cold climates |
Can you produce custom architectural shapes (arches, circles, triangles)?
Yes. We fabricate non-rectangular windows using CNC-bent aluminum profiles with a minimum radius of 350mm. Our 5-axis CNC machining center (Elumatec SBZ 122) easily handles arched, circular, gable, polygon, and radius configurations.
Max operable arched unit: 1,800mm W × 2,400mm H.
Fixed glazing: Unlimited shape within profile bend radius constraints.
